The Case Corporation was a manufacturer of construction and agricultural equipment founded by Jerome I. Case in 1844.

Born to a farming family in 1819 Case reportedly became interested in farm equipment as a child when he learned about a new hand-powered machine that could cut wheat. Later in 1842 Case moved to Wisconsin, improved upon early threshing machines and founded The J. I. Case Threshing Machine Company in 1844. Three of his top employees later became partners in the company.

Case constructed a portable steam engine in 1869 to power his wheat threshers. The engine now lives in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC. Case later won first place at the 1878 Paris Exposition for one of his powered wheat threshers and around the same time created his first self-propelled tractor or "traction engine."

By the time J. I. Case died in 1891, "Case" was an international company and the most prolific engine manufacturer in North America.

The company went on to produce a wide range of construction and farm equipment and even some automobiles. The company acquired and merged with other smaller companies until Case itself was purchased by "The Kern County Land Company" in 1964. In turn Kern County sold Case to the Tenneco Company of Texas. The new parent company Tenneco also purchased selected assets of International Harvester and merged them with the Case line.

The Case nameplate lives on today.
