1944 Cherry & Co. Advertising Mailer
I believe "Cherry & Co." is another name for "Cherry & Webb" though I have been unable to confirm this. Cherry Webb was founded in Massachusetts in 1888 and was owned by the Outlet Co. from 1963 until 1982. The company began as a high-end women's clothing store specializing in fur coats. The chain peaked in the 1980s with 65 stores in New England. The company filed for Bankruptcy in 2000 and it's merchandise was liquidated shortly thereafter.
As an interesting side note, a Providence Journal article in 1938 recounts the drowning of a Cherry & Webb employee in the hurricane of 1938. Apparently the employee was trapped in the basement while attempting to rescue the high-end fur coats in storage.
